Online Curricula & Programs

These curricula and programs provide students and parents with the tools they need to guide an at-home education. These are often self-paced or flexible. Expect course choices and more control over the schedule.

K12 Homeschool Curriculum & Courses
  • Which grades? K-12.
  • Offers diploma? No. You can purchase courses and curricula from K12, but this is different than their public or private online school options.
  • Live classes? Optional. Depends on what you purchase.
  • Cost? The cost of K12’s curriculum and courses depends on what you purchase, there is no set cost.
  • International? Unknown. Will update when confirmed.
Time4Learning
  • Which grades? PreK-12th.
  • Live classes? No.
  • Cost? Time4Learning uses a monthly subscription system. PreK through 5th grade is $29.95 per month while 6th through 12th grade is $39.95 per month. View full information.
  • International? Yes. You can use Time4Learning outside of the United States, but their program is based in the U.S. education style and system. Learn more.
The Keystone School
  • Which grades? K-12.
  • Live classes? No. This is a self-paced program. All coursework must be completed within 12 months from the date of enrollment.
Penn Foster
  • Which grades? High school.
  • Offers diploma? Yes.
  • Live classes? No. This is a self-paced program.
  • Cost? Depending on payment plan, Penn Foster High School may cost up to $1,499. Learn more.
  • International? Yes. We recommend reaching out to them directly for more details.
Oak Meadow Distance Learning
  • Which grades? K-12. Oak Meadow uses a physical curriculum. Their Distance Learning program offers support from teachers and administrative staff to help students and parents during their homeschooling journey.

Online Schools

These schools function similarly to in-person public and private schools. They offer academic and social structure and support. Expect classes, teachers, advisors, and more.

K12 Tuition-Free Online Public School
  • Which grades? K-12.
  • Offers diploma? Yes.
  • Live classes? Yes. Flexible.
  • Cost? Tuition-free, if you meet requirements to enroll. You can enroll mid-year if needed.
  • International? No. This is an online public school for U.S. students. See K12 Private School for the private school equivalent from the same company, which is internationally available.
K12 Online Private School
  • Which grades? K-12.
  • Offers diploma? Yes.
  • Live classes? Yes.
  • Cost? Ranges $4,995 to $6,995 per year for full-time, depending on grade level. There is some minimal scholarship availability.
Connections Academy (Tuition Free)
  • Which grades? K-12.
  • Offers diploma? Yes.
  • Live classes? Yes. The amount of required live lessons may vary by state. Some may be optional.
  • Cost? This is a tuition-free online public school. You just need to enroll!
  • International? No. This is an online public school for U.S. students. See Pearson Online Academy for the private school equivalent from the same company, which is internationally available.
Acellus Academy

Please note: Acellus has been at the center of controversy due to the content included in their curriculum, primarily on the basis of racist or racially insensitive content within some lessons. The Homeschooler’s Chat does not condone such content or narratives in any way and advises every parent and student to do their own research into the content within the programs which they utilize in home education prior to making any choices or financial investments. We have chosen to include Acellus in this list with the hopes of spreading accurate information about popular programs, however we do not officially recommend Acellus academy at this time.

  • International? From Acellus’ about page, “As a distance education school, Acellus Academy serves a diverse population of students located throughout the United States and in some international regions, from nearly all walks of life.” Please do your own research to learn more, as we have not found further details on international students within Acellus Academy.
Pearson Online Academy
  • Which grades? K-12.
  • Live classes? Yes.
Excel High School
  • Which grades? 6th-12th. Middle school (ages 11+) and high school (ages 14+).
  • Live classes? No.
  • International? Yes.
