November 2023 Discord Server Changes

A quick recap of the changes Anne made to The Homeschooler’s Chat Discord Server during the month of November in 2023. If you already saw all of our updates in the News channel within our Discord Server, you’re most likely already up to speed.

Role changes:
  • The @Adulting role will receive pings when new blog posts that include advice for adult life, college, and related content are released.
  • The @Hangout role has been (re)added! Enjoy pinging fellow users for casual voice chat hangouts, to play games together, or just vibe! You can do so in #vc-pings.

New commands:

  • /hangout – invite other users to join you in voice chat! Can be sent every 8 hours.
  • /study – invite other users to join you in voice chat to study together (usually in silence or with light music). Can be sent every 8 hours.

Channel changes:

  • #study-and-hangout – previously #vc-pings and #study-buddies. Use this channel to send the /hangout and /study commands, both of which invite other users to join you in voice chat!
  • #feelings-💌 – name changed to #advice. Users must now be Bronze rank or higher to create their own posts. Please note: this is not intended to be a vent channel. Please only post here when you’re seeking advice or input. Changes have been made to better reflect the intent of this channel.
  • Introvert lounge has been transformed into #off-topic! Enjoy talking about anything that doesn’t really fit into #the-round-table-general-🏰.
  • #study-buddies has been transformed into #vc-pings
  • #animals-and-nature has moved to the “education” category
  • #clubs – New channel. Create and host your very own club within HSRC! What a fun way to share something you love, and make friends at the same time.
  • #💭|suggestions – New channel. Share your ideas for HSRC with us! Suggest new spaces, features, emojis, and more.
  • #parent-hub – New channel. Information and resources for parents.

Report suspicious messages or users with our bot, @Harold.

Safety updates:

Report suspicious messages or users with our bot, @Harold. You can now use our bot, Harold, to report messages or users straight to HSRC staff. To report a user, follow the same steps for reporting a message, just on a user’s profile, instead of a message!

Another safety measure added this month applies to channel access. New users must have obtained at least Copper rank, at XP level 1, to send messages in many channels. ONLY the following channels can be messaged in before obtaining a rank. If you already have Copper Rank or higher, this won’t impact you!

  • #📝|introductions
  • #the-round-table-general-🏰
  • #links-📎
  • #friend-garden-🌿
  • #book-club (with the Bookworm role)
  • #photos-📸
  • #levels-games-bots
  • -general
  • -🎨

The end!

Those are all of the changes that were made this month. The Homeschooler’s Chat is always being updated to better fit the community’s needs. If you have a suggestion for our server, head to our suggestion channel to share your idea with the team!
