February 2024 Discord Server Change Log

February was an eventful month in HSRC! Aside from the updates listed below there were also minor changes made behind the scenes to improve everyone’s experience in The Homeschooler’s Chat Discord server.

Updates

Rule changes

Includes a heavy topic relating to mental health!

Rule 11 (Don’t Create A Negative Environment) has been updated.
This rule now includes specifically that discussions of self-harm should not take place in HSRC, as this topic tends to be very heavy and cause distress for others. Discussions of recovery are still welcome. We love to celebrate with you, we just ask that details stay outside of the group for the health of all. The #advice channel guidelines were updated to reflect this as well.

New Events

Channel & Thread Updates

  • Edited the name of #projects-and-other (formerly #your-projects) to encompass more topics
  • #clubs has obtained several new user-made clubs including the following:
  • writing club 😀 (role available in the Channels & Roles tab)
  • Art Club
  • Baking club!!
  • Reading club
  • Added #”Daily Quotes 🤍” for user-made quotes of the day
  • Edited the name of #projects-and-other (formerly #your-projects)

March 2024 Art Challenge: Pixel Art

Get detailed or keep it as simple as you’d like in this fun challenge!

To join in March’s art challenge create a piece of pixel art. You can choose any subject you like for your art piece. An apple, Harold, a phone, a favorite game character, whatever you like. Just throw those squares together to your heart’s content!

How do I make pixel art?

There are a lot of digital programs for this! One option is pixilart.com which you can use for FREE and do not need an account for! You can also use a small canvas in your existing digital art program for a similar experience!

Can I do this on paper/canvas?

Yes! You do not have to use a digital art program for this. We recommend creating a grid for making this type of art on paper or canvas.

What we ARE looking for

  • A still image, or a GIF
  • Artwork that is 100% your own
  • Traditional or digital art or a craft (submitted as a clear picture)

What we’re NOT looking for:

  • Work that is not 100% your own
  • Traced or copied artwork
  • AI generated art

Submit your piece by March 25th, 2024 8:00am EST/1:00pm GMT.

To submit an art piece you can either post your artwork in the #monthly-art-challenge channel (viewable with the @Art Crowd role from the Channels & Roles tab) in HSRC’s Discord server or DM it to @hsrc before March 25th, 2024 8:00am EST/1:00pm GMT!

I want to participate, but I think I’ll forget!
We’ve got you covered! The @Art Crowd will get a reminder ping in two weeks. You can grab the @Art Crowd role from the Channels & Roles tab at the top of the channel list in our Discord server.

The end!

Those are all of the changes and things that were added this month! The Homeschooler’s Chat is always being updated to better fit the community’s needs. If you have a suggestion for our server, head to our suggestion channel to share your idea with The Homeschooler’s Chat’s staff team! As always, thank you for being here. Don’t forget to hydrate today!

Published by Anne - HSRC Founder

Hi, friend! I'm Anne, founder and administrator of The Homeschooler's Chat, the largest Discord community for homeschooling teenagers. I've been growing HSRC since the idea first came to me in 2014. I was a homeschooler myself, and found it hard to make friends both in-person and online. That's why I created The Homeschooler's Chat, to help people like myself find support online. Today, I create all of HSRC's official content (unless otherwise credited), manage website design, handle all Discord server maintenance, operate HSRC social media accounts, and keep the community safe behind the scenes. You could say that The Homeschooler's Chat is my passion project! Thanks to the support of the HSRC community, I've been able to dedicate a lot of time and love to this project. It's my goal to nurture The Homeschooler's Chat and continue to harbor a safe space for teenagers to connect, make friends, and feel at home virtually. Thank you for being here. I hope to see you in HSRC!
